Is it truly that time of year again where the ratings have plummeted to this debacle again?
Say it ain't so. Well it looks like it has.
Well the sports world also had its own Sharknado while instead of sharks, it was one man by the name of Johnny Football who's preseason opener stole every headline out of the sports chronicles this past Friday night.
I wouldn't necessarily call it, "Friday Night Lights" but it might as well have been that way because of who was out on the field.
Have I truly resorted to this? Talking preseason snaps of a guy who has yet to prove anything? Well clearly its a big deal if that game is still being talked about 4 days later.
He looked good. Didn't look like the greatest piece of lettuce in the bunch but overall made a pretty good meal for an appetizer special to the regular season. I ultimately think that Brian Hoyer looked better and did a very good job on his part and as of now I would give him the starting nod, but here's Johnny, making a statement. a subtle one but enough to make you go, "whoa."
Let's just say that considering there has been such a down time in the state of sports recently that maybe Johnny was just a blip on our radar that became so big that nothing else could truly pull us away from the TV screen because we wanted to him either crash or succeed. You might as well watch a train run down the railroad at 100 miles an hour these days, because it's about that exciting.
Doesn't this just scream Tebow mania from 3 years ago? The drama, the magnitude this individual holds and the grasp he has on the entire sports landscape? One thing is for certain, Johnny Football will create a brand new sector of fans, whether he's great or just that; a blip on the radar.
Enjoy the Sharks!

Where to now?
There once was a song done by Drake about 8 years ago (yes, before anybody knew who he was) on his Comeback Season Mixtape which honestly is some of the best Music I've ever heard. It's a short song that just spreads the idea of youth and how a young man thinks. It's nothing intellectual, it's just a young man telling all that he wants through the lyrical sensation of rapping about it to a sick beat. But that's what this blog's title has come from.
Now I understand that may cause a lot of people to back away from reading this blog, but listen to the song before you make an ultimate judgment. Drake - Where to now (Click Here)
Ultimately the best song by Drake that I will claim is the greatest song I've ever heard by him till the day I die is called Give Ya (on the same mixtape) Here's the link if you want to listen to that (CLICK HERE!). But this is not a blog about Drake, it's just what I want to Give Ya because I'm searching myself because I keep asking "Where to now?" But the sports world is in the same debacle especially after the past couple of weeks since I've written my last blog.
We have the NFL starting up now with the Hall of Fame game in the books for 2014, we have about 7 weeks left in the MLB regular season, and the NBA will be around the corner before you know it. Oh, and don't forget about the start of the College Sports year for 2014-15 with the opening up of possibly the most anticipated College Football season in years because of the new playoff system put together back in 2012. We are gearing up and we'll have more than what we know to write about in the upcoming weeks but I ultimately want to talk about Paul George & Derrick Rose this week.
What a crazy symmetry these two guys have with what their careers may end up revolving around by the time these two guys retire from the sports they love. Both guys this summer participated on the USA Men's FIBA team and one did it at the expense of 2 years of injury rattled seasons where he needed massive reconstructive surgery and extensive rehabilitation to come back, but he decided to come back in the Summer instead of just get ready for Day 1 of the NBA Regular Season in late October.
Derrick Rose, the guy I'm speaking of, when healthy is the most athletic Point Guard this planet has to offer. In 2010-2011 he won the MVP award when guys like LeBron James were in their prime, he was that stupid good and people just gloss over it because of the past 2-3 seasons with his injuries. I'm personally confused that he came back when he has because of his contract, his ability, and the severity of his health these past 2-3 years. But the ultimate story now even though I'm still confused on the decision of Derrick Rose, but now it's all about Paul George.
How sad is it that this guy, who is a top 10 player in the NBA when he's on his game, is now going to miss the entire 2014-15 season because he had a "Kevin Ware" like injury with 9+ minutes left in a scrimmage between Team USA Blue & White. If you haven't seen the injury yet, just imagine what happened to Kevin Ware but slightly (and I mean barely) less tragic. It was still horrifying, and especially sad because it wasn't during any serious game, just a scrimmage. Now you see why I'm so confused on why Derrick Rose decided to do what he did by coming back when he has. Either way, it's crazy how these two superstars have truthfully coincided with one another and how their careers may revolve around the "Ken Griffey Jr. Statement": 'Imagine how great they could have been if they would have stayed healthy?'
It's a very sad statement when it comes to the way sports works, but in this case, it's crazy the comparison and now Paul George carries the load of Derrick Rose and his troubles that he has had the past 2-3 years. Hopefully, for his sake, he comes back stronger in 2015 than he did before, because dangit he's a buh-buh-beast on the court!
Next week I'll start mentioning more about the NFL, and expect the giant preseason NFL prediction blog to come here in the next couple weeks. I'll start researching in about a week. Should be awesome! If you haven't seen the 2013 one, here it is (CLICK HERE!)
See you next week, and have a blessed day!

The Great Outdoors
With the second half of the MLB season beginning and Rory Mcilroy putting his name in the conversation of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus at the age of 25 by winning the Open Championship handily, I'd like to talk about the great outdoors for a bit and help you understand why you should get out there.
I recently have been picking up golf a lot more than usual and it's not because of the Major championship we just had. I have thoroughly embraced the older gentlemen sport and have been working on my game a lot more, especially since the weather has been nothing but amazing here in the Pacific Northwest.
I know, it's not 73 degrees with a slight chill breeze for a majority of this country, but you should still go out and enjoy this before it gets back to cold miserable and dark. Yes I'm aware it's 120 degrees in Nevada and about the same in Arizona, but go on a drive for the weekend, go to somewhere away from the blazing homeland and get to somewhere with water and a lawn chair. Maybe a cold refreshment would do some good too and don't forget that beach towel.
Fortunately I love the smell of fresh cut grass, pounding a 200 yard drive down the middle of the fair way, going on long grueling runs, and crossing over some random player in the park while settling for a step back fade away for good measure. Camping would also be nice, going for a walk on the beach wouldn't hurt either, or maybe even a good hike with people you love. For now though, I'll enjoy the sporting aspect of the summer and get back to doing so instead of watching the hot air come out of my television.
Oh, and don't forget about fishing... Probably something I need to be doing right about now...
Time to go plan a trip 😅

Griffey & Cespedes
I don't know about you, but I really enjoyed the format of the Home Run Derby for 2014. I thought the 7 out change affected some players to where they couldn't get warm fast enough, but that's what separated the ones who belonged from the ones that can't. I like the bye, except it killed those who got it (Stanton & Bautista) and didn't allow them to recharge later on. But it did allow for one guy to repeat for the first time in 15 years up against the greatest player (if not top 5) of all time.
Yes I said it, Griffey is he greatest player of all time. Why? 600+ Home Runs in an era filled with hormone stuffed players and an injury riddled career which if it wasn't would have given him easily 100+ home runs. He also did something that hadn't been repeated till tonight and that was to repeat as champion of winning the Home Run Derby Contest. Yoenis Cespedes joined that topic of discussion.
With a slow start in the opening round, after he had the swing off, he didn't look back. He went into round two, destroyed Bautista, then we went up against the upstart Todd Frazier, and wrecked him enough to shut down his attempt to even have a chance.
This post of greatness might be one of the few things that Yoenis will ever do to compare him to he likes of Griffey, but to be honest, he's young enough to where he might surpass Griffey in the not to distant future with some hardware Griffey never got a chance to witness. A World Series Ring.
This Oakland A's have the best record in the league heading into the second half of the season. Their pitching staff is lethal, their offense is productive enough to get them by. But, now they have a two time home run threat and a guy who when he turns it on and is feeling it, look out.
It's been 15 years since this has happened, and with all the roid rage that has been going on since then, you have to be happy that two players have done it the right way Back-to-Back. And as Magic Johnson says it http://youtu.be/DfBfJ66vyE0. Have a great night.

That 4th of July though
I had one of the best 4th of July weekends that I can remember. I played some softball, went to a wedding and got ridiculously sick in the process. But on my Sunday, I felt great and enjoyed a family fire pit at my new place. America... F*** Yeah.
But you know who didn't get to enjoy their 4th of July, Johnny Manziel.
O.K. America, I love you and you know that I understand your criticism of him, but at the same time didn't we just get off of a weekend to enjoy our 238th year of independence as a nation... And we are here criticizing this guy for taking a picture with Bieber and Mayweather. Look, again, I understand his criticism but it's a freaking picture, and it was the 4th of July Weekend! Where does this rank on the crazy level for our American Psyche?
If it were a weekend in August or definitely in September I might have more to say on this topic, but do you know how many people I know at my age (23) or younger, and even older, were out drinking till the sun came up again, let's just say there were a lot of NFL players doing it too.
I'm not going to dive into this because of how insane it is to divulge into. The fact that we are criticizing a 21 year old who is partying on the 4th of July weekend is absolute blasphemy, and for any of us to make comments should be considered ignorance and insanity at its finest. "Oh, he's a professional athlete who hangs out with celebrities and drinks on American holidays? We gotta find a way to rip him!" WHAT!!!
No, I'm not going there.
I'll wait till next week to break down real sports topics as we'll see how the NBA landscape changes.

The Greatest Free Agency Period in NBA History
This might be one of those free agency summers that NBA will soon never forget...
Or, it could be relatively predictable.
The side stories are absolutely insane, the speculation is over the top, and the suspense is riveting.
Where will Carmelo Anthony go? Where will the big three reside? And where will Dirk end his career? These questions will be answered in this upcoming month, and up until the beginning of the NBA Preseason.
Since the escapade of the LeBron James offseason seems to be going nowhere, and all he wants is a a max deal, it's fair to say this guy is going to stay on the beach in Miami.
As for Carmelo, who knows what this guy is thinking. This guy might go anywhere and quite frankly the talks about him potentially going somewhere is a shot in the dark. His best career option is to go to the Bulls, and that's where I ultimately think he's going to land, but my guess is as good as winning the billion dollars in the NCAA Tournament.
Wade will stay in Miami and if he doesn't I'd be in total disbelief. Wade is opting out to take less and help the Heat. But the real question is where will Dirk go? It sounds like he's more than likely going to stay in Dallas but you never know. Dirk is the equivalency of the Peyton Manning of the NBA, at least when it comes to career success comparisons. So when it comes to his chances of staying, they are high but you never know when it comes to where he may want to settle his career.
The other big men with Pau Gasol and Greg Monroe, these two players could dictate where the big man power goes in he NBA. Pau Gasol is looking like he may stay in L.A. but something tells me that he isn't going to. I think that he is more than likely going to head to the east coast and maybe even help the Knicks start a new with Tyson Chandler now back in Dallas. As for Monroe, he's about as predictable as Melo and where he will end up. I think he could have a serious impact on any team he goes to, but if he's smart he has got to go to Lakers especially now that Julius Randle is in the mix and with Randle's finesse game, Monroe would compliment him perfectly with the skill set Kobe still possesses.
The two small forwards that teams have a large interest in are Parsons and Deng. I think Deng goes to a team that desperately needs him and that might be a place like L.A. Now which L.A. that is is the real question. If he goes to the Lakers with Monroe, look out in L.A. But if he goes to the Clippers, then they will become an instant title contender. As for Parsons, he's another player I have no clue on, but I see him going to a large market maybe the Knicks would find him as a solid replacement for Melo if Melo doesn't return.
No matter what happens, this free agent period will have headlines, but how they will be made will dictate the outcome of where the league will go the next 3 years.
See you next week!

Summertime Fling
It's that time of year where the middle of the year is upon us and we are getting into another dead point in the sports world. We do have the World Cup and College World Series but it's not the same pizazz as the NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals or even the NCAA Tournament. But that is ok because it is that time of year where the outdoors takes a front seat to the television and the technology.
Unless you are in Texas, Nevada, or about 36 other states. This is gonna be a hot summer but it's gonna be a fun one too. I may recap some NBA draft and discuss who should be in the starting spots for the All-Star game. But I might just keep doing my radio show too which is on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 12:30 pm pacific time and there are podcasts up since the beginning of June.
I'll be going on a hiking trip this weekend but there will be lots to cover on the shows that I'll be discussing on those days.
Ehhhhh.... For the time being go outside its beautiful. Or go enjoy a nice cool movie if you find yourself in a state imitating the Sahara desert.
